In the winter here, we get short days - it's dark at 5 here and we see the sunrise at 8:30. But that is nothing compared to the arctic regions, where they get 24 hour night. So - have you ever wondered what Inuit used to see, cook, dry there clothes in the winter? Well, they used this, a Kudlik, or Qulliq.
A qulliq is a lamp that is made of soap stone, filled with seal blubber, and uses a wick of moss, or common cotton grass.
It is featured in the Nunavut coat of arms (the small bowl on fire).
